Department of Anesthesiology

About

The specialty of anesthesiology has been marked by unprecedented growth and change in various methods of rendering the patients insensitive to pain. Monitoring and maintaining vital organ functions during surgery remains the main professional activity of the anesthesiologist. The practice of anesthesiology continues to grow as evidenced in the development of subspecialties like pain management, critical care and preoperative medicine.

Over the years, along with development of medical sciences, the department has set its own high standards in patient care, education and research. All surgical and super specialties are anchored to this specialty.

The department has an annual intake of 06 junior residents pursuing their MD Degrees. All post graduates are posted in routine OTs, ICU, PAC and pain clinics in rotation. Conferences, workshops and CMEs are organized and attended by the department regularly.

The department currently runs 11 well-equipped Operation Theatres, 6 of them being modular ones, located on the 3rd Floor OT complex, SSB 2nd & 3rd Floor, and Maternity Block. These include fully equipped modular operation theaters with multipara monitors and anesthesia work stations, and well-equipped post-operative care units.
  2. ICU Services: The Department also runs a 20-bedded ICU and ICCU/SICU/BURN ICU/TRANSPLANT ICU which cater to critically ill patients with facilities for invasive monitoring, and special facilities of CRRT & ECMO. The department is equipped with Multipara Monitors, Central Oxygen, Central Suction, Suction Machines, Electronic Nebulizers, Oxygen Masks, Glucometers, ABG Machines, HFNC Machines, Ventilators, Crash Carts, Defibrillators, Patient Body Warmers, Fluid Warmers, and Emergency Airway Trolleys.

Specialty Clinics:

  1. PAIN CLINIC: For both acute & chronic pain.
  2. Pre-anesthetic Clinic:

Other Services & Facilities:

  1. NON-OPERATING ROOM ANAESTHESIA SERVICES: Anesthesia services are also provided outside OTs like radiology procedures (CT, MRI) for pediatric patients, Endoscopy, Bronchoscopy, Cardiac Catheterization, Interventional Radiology, ECT, and Emergency Department.
  2. PAC and Pain Clinic: The department is running PAC and Pain Clinic. Interventional pain procedures are done for various chronic pain syndromes under fluoroscopic guidance.
