Department of Pathology

About

Pathology is a discipline deeply rooted in medical history that bridges clinical practice and basic science, serving as a foundation for sound clinical medicine. The term ‘Pathology’ represents the study of disease, involving the investigation of patterns, causes, underlying mechanisms, and effects of illnesses. It encompasses the entire disease process from inception to termination by examining the changes produced.

Pathology is a vital component of medical education for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare practitioners, significantly enhancing their skills and efficiency. It includes both the medical specialty that utilizes organs, cells, tissues, and body fluids to obtain clinically useful information, and the scientific study of disease processes through examination.

The faculty of the Department of Pathology plays a major role in teaching and training undergraduate students in Medicine (Phase-II) and allied courses, as well as postgraduate students aiming to become specialist consultants of global standards. Additionally, the department provides competent laboratory services essential for diagnosing diseases and monitoring patient treatment.

Regular, interactive, and integrated academic programs are conducted to foster academic excellence and quality in patient care. The department actively engages in research activities and publishes findings in indexed national and international scientific journals. Pathology includes various sub-sections such as Histopathology, Cytopathology, Hematology, and Clinical Pathology, along with specialty sections like Immunohistochemistry and Immunocytochemistry.
